Bayern Munich battled back from conceding an early goal to hammer Shakhtar Donetsk 5-1 away from home in the Champions League on Tuesdaysmbet, which was their third straight victory in the tournament. (More Football News)
The German side had been beaten by both Aston Villa and Barcelona in their previous away games in the competition, but cruised to three points after the early setback.
They went behind after five minutes when Kevin cut inside Kim Min-jae and finished into the far corner of the goal. But the lead did not last long, with Konrad Laimer smashing an effort into the roof of the net six minutes later after Michael Olise had lost possession.
Bayern got ahead just before half-time, with Thomas Muller slotting a simple finish home after having been played in by Jamal Musiala.
Shakhtar went in search of an equaliser in the second half, but it was Vincent Kompany's side who were able to get further ahead. Musiala thought he had got the third with a volley from a corner on 67 minutes, but it was disallowed for a foul on the goalkeeper.
Three minutes later, they had their goal through a Michael Olise penalty after Alaa Ghram had fouled substitute Sacha Boey. Musiala got another three minutes from time, while Olise completed the rout with his second in stoppage time.
Following the result, Bayern Munich are 13th in the Champions League table and two points behind the top eight. Shakhtar are 24th and have a three-point buffer between themselves and falling out of the play-off spots.

— FC Bayern (@FCBayernEN) December 10, 2024Data debrief: Bayern go goal crazy in Gelsenkirchen
This was the first time that Bayern Munich have scored more than one in a Champions League game since beating Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 on Matchday 1.
Thanks largely in part to that result and, to a lesser extent, this one, only two teams have outscored the German side (12) in this season's tournament.
With a home game against Slovan Bratislavasmbet, who have conceded more than any other team (18), there could be more interesting results to come.
